Nashville star Charles Esten, who plays Deacon Clayborne in the hit television series, has been chosen to host the CMT Music Awards.
The 51 year old who is married to Rayna James (aka Connie Britton) in the show said he was both thrilled and honored to have been asked to host such a prestigious event.
Organisers have also named some of the singers set to perform at the show. They include Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Brett Elsredge and Thomas Rhett.
Charles was approached to present the awards after Nashville moved to CMT after being cancelled by ABC. He said he was satisfied that Nashville had now found its perfect home, given that CMT has such a special connection with country music.
He said that the awards were always “flat out fun” as well as being a place where magical musical moments and country legends were made.
Charles has played Rayna’s ex lover, her love interest and then her husband throughout the five seasons of the show. Her death at the end of season five came as a shock to fans of Nashville, who had to say goodbye to one of their favourite characters. ABC cancelled Nashville so abruptly that many of the actors had not known about the decision before it hit the media.
