A-Lister Whoopi Goldberg is demanding $3.5m to continue as The View’s moderator. The superstar had already announced that she would leave the show’s panel at the end of this season.
However, it has now emerged that she will consider staying for another three seasons, but only if she receives a whopping paycheck as well as a position as executive producer. She also wants a network executive who she does not get on with to be removed from their role on the show.
According to a source, Whoopi believes the executive is trying to turn The View into Good Morning America and she does not want that person to be involved in future. To make sure that she had greater decision making power going forward, she has asked to be made an executive producer.
Last year, it was reported that Whoopi had signed a one-year deal, and that her salary had been cut from $5m to $2m. To even consider staying, she wants a significant pay rise. She feels that she has played a huge part in the success of the show and that her salary ought to reflect that.
Announcing that she was leaving The View, the 61 year old said that she wanted more time to finish books and direct movies.
