Late night television host Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t hold it together as he told the audience how his baby son had needed heart surgery to save his life as soon as he was born.
The popular host was emotional as he started his programme on Monday by telling viewers that his wife Molly McNearney, 39, and he were deliriously happy after welcoming their second child into the world. William ‘Billy’ Kimmel was born in LA on April 21.
However, at one point the terrified couple thought they were going to lose their little one. The baby boy had to have risky heart surgery soon after he was born to give him a chance of survival.
Tearful Jimmy said while it was a scary story, he was delighted to say it had a happy ending. The couple already have a daughter Jane, aged two.
Their new baby’s heart problems were picked up by an attentive nurse in the recovery room at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center, who noticed the little boy had a heart murmur. Examinations revealed he had a heart disease meaning he had a hole in the walls of both sides of his heart. Thankfully, surgery was a success, although he will need two more procedures as he gets older.
